Printers, Printer Ink and Their Many Uses

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Computers have become very pervasive in our daily lives. So much so that almost all of the activities we participate in, whether they be personal or business, involve the use of computerized technology somehow. This also often includes the usage of a printer and printer ink.

We carry out all sorts of our activities with our computers. We run business and even shop right through our computer. Most offices have installed automated systems which control all operations. This in turn has improved effectiveness and efficiency of the people performing the tasks. Even booking travel is done online, using the many travel related websites that are currently available. We can choose our travel dates, airlines or train, the seat number and in a few easy steps, even make the payments through our credit cards. This will then generate the e-ticket, which we use our printer to print out and carry with us.

The same applies when booking movie tickets, the print out is considered to be as good as the original ticket. A simple way of cutting cost, the computer has made it easy for the users to gain access to these services. The only thing that the customer needs to make sure of is to have a printer with enough printer ink to take the print out.

Today, the printer comes in many different models. Some even have fax and scanning capabilities built in making them a compact all in one kind of machine.

Printer ink is the liquid that the printer needs to print the information on paper. Just like when we use a pen to write, it needs to have ink, the same theory applies to the printer. The ink comes in neatly packed cartridges, which are tailor made for different models of printers. And the ink bought should be one that suits your printer. Also most printers have two slots. One for the black cartridge and one for the color cartridge. If the black runs out of ink, many printers will stop working. Even if there’s ink in the other cartridge. The printer’s ink might also dry up if printer has not been used in a while, in such cases, you will then need to take it out, shake it a bit to revive the ink flow. It is therefore essential to keep using the machine for smooth printing, and also to do regular checks on the ink levels. This will enable the user to know when to replace them and make arrangements to procure the appropriate ink cartridge.

Computer Printer Ink Facts

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Computer printer ink is a type of ink that comes from printers that will release small droplets of ink onto paper. Virtually all modern printers now use color ink. The cheaper color printers will use a combination of three colors, and these are magenta, cyan, and yellow, and they will also print black as well. The three primary colors are used to create the wide variety of colors that can be found in nature. Some printers will use ink that is based on CMYK to make sure the color black is pure. The prices of computer printers may vary widely, and the same can be said for the ink. While a basic color printer can be purchased for less than $100, high quality color printers can cost thousands of dollars.

The cost of computer printer ink cartridges for cheap printers can be expensive over the long term. For instance, if the black cartridge is not separate from the other colors, you may need to buy an entire unit once your black has been used up. In the printer ink industry, this phenomenon is called consumables. Another thing that you will want to look at is the quality of the resolution. When you look at the resolution quality of ink, it is important to place an emphasis on the text instead of the graphics. The graphics will almost always appear higher in quality than the text. When you are looking at a printer model, you can compare it to other models by having them print out sample images.

Purchasing a high quality paper that is coated will enhance the look of your computer ink. These coated pieces of paper will not absorb the printer ink in the same manner that the ink is absorbed by standard printer paper. While coated paper is more expensive, the cost should be considered when you are about to purchase ink for your printer. If you need to print high quality images to be used for advertisements, you will need to obtain what is called a wide-format printer. These printers are used to produce text and graphics for large posters, billboards, or banners. In addition to printing images on paper, these printers can be used to print images on materials such as vinyl. They have a professional level of quality, and they are often used by large companies.

The way in which ink is printed on materials will fall under two categories, and these are “drop on demand” and “continuous ink.” As the name suggests, printers which use the continuous ink method will spray a bunch of droplets onto the material. While this method is still common, drop on demand will force the ink out of the chamber by using electricity or heat. A thermal technique will be used to warm up a resistor than will push the droplets out of the nozzle. An air bubble will be generated within the chamber. Some companies have also begin using crystals to expand the ink. This is one of the most cutting edge advance in printer ink technology.

How To Connect Your Computer To Your Home Theater

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

These days, a computer can act a lot more like an entertainment device than ever before. You can watch online video, listen to music, view pictures and more!

But who wants to sit in their home office on a desktop computer or sit at a notebook computer to do this? “Not I, said the cat.” Listening through cheap computer speakers and watching video on a computer monitor is not my idea of real entertainment; how about you?

Why not connect your computer’s audio and video to your home entertainment system? You can watch TV shows, movies, and videos on your HDTV or any other TV with appropriate inputs. You can listen to music through your home stereo if it has AUX, VIDEO, or any other input using a standard RCA connection.

Connecting Computer Video to Your TV:

To connect the video, your computer must have an output for which your TV has a matching input.

Virtually every computer comes with a VGA output of some kind. The plug for this looks almost rectangular (you can see one by locating where you computer monitor connects to the back end of your desktop computer).

Another video output connection many computers may have is S-Video. This is a round connection. S-Video plugs have 4 tiny round holes (2 on each side) and a tiny rectangular hole in the bottom. S-Video cables have a round end with 4 tiny metal prongs and a tiny rectangular piece of plastic at the bottom.

However, many televisions do not have VGA inputs and only some have S-Video inputs. If yours doesn’t, you’ll need to make sure it at least has an RCA video input (this is a very standard connection which is used to connect record players, VCRs and CD players to other devices). If your TV came out since the early to mid 1990s it most likely has a standard RCA video input.

If your TV does have an RCA video input, simply buy a VGA to TV Converter. This will connect to your computer’s VGA output and provide RCA and S-Video connections (which are standard inputs found on most TVs since the 1990s).

Make sure you have the proper cables for your TV. Depending on which type of input your TV uses, you’ll need an RCA cable, an S-Video cable or a VGA cable.

Connecting Computer Sound to Your TV, Stereo or Home Theater System:

Now that the hard part is out of the way, the sound is easy. Simply buy a Y-cord. It should contain a stereo male 1/8″ on one end and two RCA males on the other end. Just ask your local electronics store; this is a standard cable they will all most-likely carry in-stock.

Connect the stereo 1/8″ male end to the green jack on your computer (usually on the back of desktop computers and on the front or side of notebook computers) where your speakers would normally connect.

Alternatively, you may connect the 1/8″ to the headphone jack on your computer. (Note: any device with a headphone jack can connect to your home theater, such as an iPod using this same cord!)

Connect the two RCA males to the L and R input jacks on your TV, Home Theater or Stereo. And you’re done! Just make sure to select the right setting (AUX, VIDEO, etc.) on your stereo or receiver.

Enjoy online content in all the glory you’ve enjoyed content from TV, DVD, CD, and the radio! There’s already tons of online content available on major broadcasting sites, and there will be more as the future moves forward.

If you don’t have a DVD player but there is a DVD drive on your computer, this setup will turn your computer into a DVD player! Once connected, call the store from whom you bought your computer and ask how to play a DVD on the computer.

How To Password Protect A USB Flash Drive

Monday, May 5th, 2008

USB flash drives are great but how to password protect your USB flash drive just in case it gets lost?

Being able to carry around lots of files in a small device that easily fits your pocket is something fairly new to most of us. Until recently, we used floppy disks or burned information to a CD. But all that’s changed with the advent of neat little USB flash drives that can hold gigabytes of data - ideal for the files that you need access to regardless of where you are.

Individual files can easily be password protected. PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Access databases can all have a password set when you save them. This makes them reasonably safe from prying eyes. I say reasonably safe as nothing is completely uncrackable. Sorry.

But what do you do if you want to protect more of your files than just a few? Or if you’d prefer the convenience of only typing in one password and then everything it was protecting becomes available?

If you don’t mind the hassle, there’s a free program called Cryptania LE. It’s easy enough to use and free to download but you need to split your USB drive up into 25Mb segments. Nowadays, that’s pretty small. Just a handful of full resolution photographs from your digital camera, for instance.

Failing that, you will need to find a program that password protects individual folders on your flash drive. These programs are quite inexpensive and quite convenient.

Just remember the password you choose and don’t keep it anywhere obvious. Which means that scribbles on the USB drive itself and Post-It notes would be bad ideas!

Calling all Sports Entrepreneurs - The World Seeks Your Knowledge!

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

All too often the word “Entrepreneur” is thrown around quite loosely and can be associated with anyone who starts their own business. I have often being called an entrepreneur due to the fact that I have created and built several online web sites, written and published my own eBooks and built a successful online business.

However, like many sports fans, athletes and coaches, I just wanted to share my knowledge and expertise with fellow tennis coaches around the world. An Entrepreneur I am not, more like a keen sports fan who had something to share and found a way via the power of the internet to successfully do this.

Could you become a sports entrepreneur? Well, if you have a passion for sports, some experience in your chosen sport and feel that you have something to share with other sports fans then there may just be a market out there waiting for your help. You could share your coaching tips and advice, proven training methods, new ways to practice a certain skill, new drills for your sport, a new fitness program, “How to” tips and so much more.

You will find “experts” on the web proclaiming that they have the secret to running faster, jumping higher, being mentally stronger, getting stronger and bigger and so on.

So what are the ways that you can share your knowledge with the world and make some money as well? Below are some ideas that cost very little money to do and some are even Free!

(1) Write your own eBook:

An eBook is simply a PDF or electronic book that you can write in a word document, convert for free to a PDF eBook, then sell it online and get to keep all of the profits without sharing them with a greedy publisher! You could write an eBook about how to lose weight, how to improve your speed, how to improve your mental toughness, how to coach soccer, an ebook with hundreds of drills for your sport, an ebook comprised of interviews with famous athletes or coaches and so on! I have already found ebooks with these exact topics covered so you will need to find your own niche. Clickbank is the most popular site to sell and promote eBooks.

(2) Build a member based website.

There is no better way to build a loyal customer base and share your knowledge than via a subscription based web site. A member based web site is basically comprised of articles, ebooks, videos, interviews and related resources that focus on a specific topic. Global Sports Coaching is an example of a tennis member based web site.

(3) Create your very own DVD or CD.

With today’s technology it is very simple to create your own video. All you need is a video camera (your own or borrow one) and then convert or save that footage to a DVD. I have seen DVD’s and CD’s on how to run faster, on teaching tennis, baseball coaching, stretching exercises, how to throw free throws in basketball, football plays and so on. YouTube is a prime example of how popular videos are.

(4) Write your own blog!

There are many free blogging software programs out there such as Wordpress or Blogger that allow you to create your own blog. You can then write articles, share your knowledge, promote your other products etc. How do you make money from a blog? Well, the most common ways are by placing Google Adsense or affiliate programs in your blog. These are free to do. There are bloggers out there who have made a small fortune from their blogs.

(5) Sign up for Affiliate programs and make money by promoting someone else’s products.

You don’t have to make any cold calls or sell their products directly. You just simply have to place an affiliate link on your site, send them to the affiliate’s web site and if the viewer buys a product you will receive a commission for it. There are affiliate programs such as Commission Junction, Linkshare, ShareaSale and Commission Monster that can provide you with links to many of the best affiliate programs. Once again these programs are free to sign-up for.

(6) Create your own product

. Have you created your own product, sports coaching aid, some new fitness equipment, piece of sports equipment, or training aid that can improve an athlete’s game? Then all you need to do is test your product, price it, promote it and sell it via your web site, on eBay or via an affiliate program.

(7) Become a Guest Speaker.

Many clubs, businesses and sporting corporations seek experts in their field to go and speak to their employees. It could be to motivate them, share your knowledge with them, advise or be a coach to them, or just to share some funny stories with them that you may have accumulated throughout your sporting career.

(8) Write your own newsletter full of free tips and advice, articles and resources for a specific topic.

You can also write product reviews that contain an affiliate link from which you can make money from. If your newsletter grows then you may attract businesses who will want to advertise in your newsletter. Newsletters are a great way to build your own list of customers from which you can then sell or promote your own products.

There are many more great ways to use your sporting knowledge and experience to make a living from. Choose something that you believe in and make sure that what you are selling is worth the price you are asking for it. Your reputation is very important, especially on the internet. Just remember that many ideas involve the internet as this is a way to reach a global market. Anyone with a computer in any country is a potential customer!

As the often used saying goes “You too can Profit from Your Passion.”
